The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Pits Woody and Buzz Against a Digital Device
Exactly 30 years after the first Toy Story movie was released, establishing Pixar as a leading film company and bringing viewers to beloved figures like Woody (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed this week, providing a glimpse into the storyline but leaving fans wondering how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys
The preview reveals the young girl — who received the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a latest plaything, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie gets her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.
Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the toys seem to view it as a danger coming to replace them, which it likely will.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
An element the trailer doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is back with his companions in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (the actress), journeying with a fair and assisting giveaway items locate loving owners.
Certainly, the filmmakers will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, however. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have returned with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?
Connections from the Last Installment
Fortunately, some aspects are carrying over from the earlier movie. The last thing the cowboy did before setting off for his fresh path was pass his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), entrusting her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser shows the insignia pinned to her shirt.
Hopefully she is still the key figure among the group.
Toy Story 5 debuts on the scheduled date.
